Raptors Win Causes Uproar Across Canada and the U.S
After a Game 6 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, the Toronto Raptors are headed to the NBA finals for the first time in franchise history, and fans couldn’t be more excited. The victory sent sports fans in Toronto and across Canada into a frenzy. On Twitter, the use of the We The North hashtag grew significantly compared to during the regular season. Even in the U.S, many states except for California, Nevada and Hawaii, which represent the core Golden State Warriors fans, are rooting for the Raptors to win the NBA finals.
There are also many companies in Toronto that have jumped on the Raptor’s bandwagon. From Netflix to GO-Transit, almost everywhere you look people are expressing their love and support for the team. On Thursday, McDonald’s Canada released an ad in which its golden arches were changed to white. “In support of the Raps, our arches are no longer in a golden state,” the company tweeted. Netflix Canada also tweeted: "That if you’re watching Netflix tonight instead of the Raptor’s historic game 1, then you’re letting down all of Toronto, all of Canada and all of Drake.” If you walk by the Art Gallery of Ontario downtown, you’ll find its letters wrapped in the Raptor’s logo and painted red. In addition, GO-Transit has also renamed its Quiet Zone to the “Kawhi-it Zone.” They stated that it would remain this way until the end of the NBA finals.
Many Raptors fans around the world will be watching the historic NBA finals. Considering the Toronto Maple Leafs had a disappointing playoff season, people are looking forward to the possibility of the Raptors taking home the win. If they are victorious, we should expect parties and parades to take the streets.
