Fake News is No News
There are many different ways to determine if you are reading fake news. An effective way that I have used while reading information on the internet is to check if the author is reliable or not. Often times, the most controversial information is found on people’s blogs, twitter accounts, and personal websites where people want to gain media attention. Another way is to read the whole article to see if the headline matches the content of the article. Many times, I have clicked on a website because it had an interesting title and found that the information I was reading had nothing to do with it. The last way I use to determine if I’m reading fake news is to check the supporting sources. If the information found on the links doesn’t match the story, chances are you are reading fake news.
Recently, I have seen posts about Khloe Kardashian circulating the internet. The producer of “The Bachelor”, Mike Fleiss, said that the reality TV star wanted to be the next star on “The Bachelorette.” However, Khloe’s older sister, Kim had recently denied these claims on her sister’s behalf tweeting: “Fake news big time!!!” Usually I don’t keep up with celebrity drama and reality television, but I had seen many articles about it that I decided to read about it. My first reaction to the article was that it sounded like the producer of the Bachelor, Mike Fleiss wanted Khloe Kardashian on the show to increase its views. The story was also covered by many unreliable sources and circulated the internet very quickly.
